Etymology

[edit]

From za- +‎ tvoriť modelled after the verb otvoriť (to open), which was reanalysed as *o-tvoriti as opposed to the original *otъ- + *voriti, inherited from Proto-Slavic *otъvoriti. See also pritvoriť (to close not fully), roztvoriť (to open, to spread out), vytvoriť (to expel < to leave someone outside).
