The form ꞗỡ is recorded in de Rhodes (1651), indicating an earlier presyllable followed by a labial: C-b-. The vowel is pretty much impossible to reconcile whether you go with the early form or a later form. Reflexes of PHM *pʰajH, which is an early loan, such as Iu Mien paaix and White Hmong phua, also demonstrate the semantic and phonological discrepancy.” |
