[edit]From Proto-Vietic *k-rǝmʔ, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *grəm(ʔ) ~ *gram() (“to thunder; to rumble”); cognate with Tho [Cuối Chăm] kʰrʌm⁴, Pacoh crứm (“thunder”), Bahnar grơ̆m (“distant thunder”) and Khmer គ្រុម (krum, “sound of thunder”).
