A user has added this entry to requests for verification(+) with the reason: “Yeah I have heard this repeated a fair number of times, but how true is this actually? On Google Books, I found plenty of attestations of sân bay (both in isolation and as part of name like "sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất/Nhứt") in texts published in the South pre-1975, including documents published by the South Vietnam goverment. I also found phi trường in a document pubished by Workers' Party of Vietnam and in books by Trần Huy Liệu, a member of the Communist Party.”
If it cannot be verified that this term meets our attestation criteria, it will be deleted. Feel free to edit this entry as normal, but do not remove {{rfv}} until the request has been resolved.
This is a South Vietnamese word that has been displaced by its northern, more "native" counterpart sân bay in Vietnam. In overseas Vietnamese communities, it is still in common use.
