From Old Norse hinna (to reach), from Proto-Germanic *hinþaną, cognate with Swedish hinna (to have sufficient time), Gothic 𐍆𐍂𐌰𐌷𐌹𐌽𐌸𐌰𐌽 (frahinþan, to take captive).
