[edit]From Proto-Brythonic *gwehantuɨn (compare Welsh gwanwyn), enlargement of Proto-Celtic *wesantos, oblique case of *wesr- (compare Irish earrach), from Proto-Indo-European *wósr̥ (compare Latin vēr, Lithuanian vãsara, Polish wiosna, Sanskrit वसन्त (vasantá, “spring”), वसर् (vasar, “in the morning”, adverb)).
