Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *wasantás, from Proto-Indo-European *wesn̥-tó-s, from *wósr̥ (“spring”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔαρ (éar), Latin vēr, Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀𐬭 (vaŋhar), Persian بهار (bahâr), Old Norse vár, Russian весна́ (vesná).
