[edit]Uncertain. Ultimately onomatopoeic.
- From fryga + -ać, with a semantic shift of to set a dreidel into motion to to fling (quickly), and finally to eat quickly.[1]
- Ultimately from fr (“about a sound when taking off to flight”), with fryga being derived from frygać.[2]
