driogan
Appearance
Old Saxon
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *dreugan, from Proto-Germanic *dreuganą. Cognate with Gothic 𐌳𐍂𐌹𐌿𐌲𐌰𐌽 (driugan, “do military service”), Old English drēogan and Old Norse drýgja (“perform, practise”).
Pronunciation
[edit]- IPA(key): /ˈdriɛ̯ɣɑn/
- Possibly IPA(key): /ˈdriɔ̯ɣɑn/, but the spelling with ⟨io⟩ is comparably rare, so that it is not certain whether it might merely be a spelling convention copied from Old Dutch and Old High German or indeed an older stage of the language.
