Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Vininn126 (talk) 13:07, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

There a few problems with this. The formatting doesn't match standards presented in WT:EL (see the welcome message), and the sources you link lead nowhere. And also, if anything, it would be a {{deverbal}}. Vininn126 (talk) 13:10, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is a quote, not a usage note. Could you make it into a quote (using {{RQ:orv:LC}}? Also, preferably with the whole sentence and the translation. Thadh (talk) 22:37, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm just getting to know the Wiktionary system. Unfortunately, I didn't quite understand exactly how to do it, could you tell me?
I found a quote from the chronicle here:

I'll give you an example later today, but in the meantime: We don't have Middle Russian as a full-fledged language, it's handled as a variety of Russian. Please don't create entries for it and you don't have to add it in the descendants lists. Thadh (talk) 08:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you in advance.

If we don't use Middle Russian, then it's unfair to specify Old Ruthenian.
Actually, the continuation of the development of the Old Russian language in the period of the 14th and 17th centuries should either be defined together or should be ignored together.
Otherwise, a biased picture is obtained. Vmelnikov2022 (talk) 22:09, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Cf. Симарьглъ (Simarĭglŭ) (make sure you check the original manuscript - it's linked there - for the right markup/typography and original text). Thadh (talk) 08:55, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I can see you're open to learning, great!

I can also see you have zeal, also great. Please go back and fix the following: Use {{orv-noun}} - this is CRUCIAL because the template categorizes the word properly into the REQUIRED categories, and also adds grammatical information. You can read more about it by clicking the link in this line.

Use {{orv-IPA}}.

Please do not add Middle Russian, it is instead a label. Vininn126 (talk) 13:20, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

>> Use Vmelnikov2022 ?
>> Use Lua error in Module:orv-IPA at line 100: Please add a stress mark to the first parameter!
Thank you for the advice.

It's currently more a technical problem. Some stand for it. You can make your case for it, but until then, it's better to use a label. If consensus is achieved, then sure. Vininn126 (talk) 22:40, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Vmelnikov2022: The developments between the 14th and the 17th centuries were much fewer is Eastern Russian than they were in Western Russian, and also Western Russian (=Old Ruthenian) developed in three languages, not one. Thadh (talk) 00:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Thadh
However, the difference between Middle Russian and Russian, there are certain differences.
At the same time, the differences between Middle Russian and Old Ruthenian at least until the 16th century, the differences are negligible.
Following the logic: Old East Slavic ≈ Middle Russian ≈ Old Ruthenian, why allocate only one language (Old Ruthenian)? Vmelnikov2022 (talk) 11:45, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Thadh
In my personal opinion, I see the logic in choosing either 1 or 2 options.
Old East Slavic (orv)
|-- Middle Russian (zle-mru)
|-- Russian (ru)
|-- Old Ruthenian (zle-ort)
|-- Belarusian (be)
|-- Rusyn (rue)
|-- Ukrainian (uk)
----
Old East Slavic (orv)
|-- Belarusian (be)
|-- Russian (ru)
|-- Rusyn (rue)
|-- Ukrainian (uk) Vmelnikov2022 (talk) 12:03, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have to fix every single OES entry you've created, and I honestly don't have the time for this. Please, before creating any more:

  • Read WT:AORV
  • Take a look at Афетъ, повѣсть, къто, съгрѣшити and make sure you understand every single piece of code used in these OES entries. If you don't understand anything, ping me and I'll explain it.
  • Then, take a look at and its categories.
  • Finally, go back and fix every single entry you've created unless someone else has done it already.
