Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
- If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.
You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage. This shows which languages you know, so other editors know which languages you'll be working on, and what they can ask you for help with.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome! Wyang (talk) 08:53, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Korean hanja don't use simplified Chinese, let alone Japanese shinjitai
[edit]Hello,
Please don't use simplified Chinese or Japanese specific spellings to make Korean entries. 音楽 is Japanese only, 来年 is simplified Chinese and Japanese shinjitai, not Korean. I'll let you read and look-up on the actual correct hanja forms yourself. And don't play edit-warring, please. You may get blocked. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:42, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- That written as 약자 (abbreviation), not Simplified Chinese. Some of the Korean entries already have those, I just follow them. Marlin Setia1 (talk) 03:47, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- ko:音楽 or ko:来年, you guessed it, are not the authority for our WT:CFI. You can try some solid dictionaries, such as Naver instead. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:49, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Okay then, it seems I was just wasting my time for those 약자. Marlin Setia1 (talk) 03:56, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- It's OK. We have automated templates to generate hanja. The efforts should be more on the main writing form - hangeul, not on the system that is fading out. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:59, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Atitarev So why the Korean Wiktionary mention those 약자? How it suppose to be mentioned in the Korean entries (of English Wiktionary)? Do they need reliable source, or do not need to be mentioned at all? Marlin Setia1 (talk) 04:09, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- There is an idea that Koreans should now learn simplified Chinese and Japanese characters to understand how their own words match to their cognates. This is not scientific and they should just use dictionaries or use traditional Chinese as the common spelling for all Sino-Xenic languages. It's an extra effort required to learn that Korean 음악 (音樂, eumak) is the modern Japanese 音楽 (ongaku) and Chinese 音樂/音乐 (yīnyuè). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
