[edit]Welcome to English Wiktionary. What follows is a standard boilerplated welcome for you; what matters most I think is WT:CFI and WT:ATTEST in particular. --Dan Polansky (talk) 18:57, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide to Wikipedia users useful.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
- If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.
You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage. This shows which languages you know, so other editors know which languages you'll be working on, and what they can ask you for help with.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome!
dragounovat
[edit]I have sent "dragounovat" to WT:RFV#dragounovat. I cannot verify that the word has been used in at least three independent sources (WT:ATTEST). The entry now has two quotations, but from a single author, and that does not count as two independent quotations. I see you are using kramerius.nkp.cz; do you know how to search the source? By the way, if you find a quotation and want to store it in Wiktionary even though there are not enough quotations for attestation, you can use Citations:dragounovat. The citations page can be there to host citations even for not yet attested entries. --Dan Polansky (talk) 18:57, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
By the way, my favorite attestation searches: google:"dragounovat", google books:"dragounovat". --Dan Polansky (talk) 18:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- The entry dragounovat is included in the PSJČ (verbs have to be looked up with a -ti ending) which is also the source I drew from. I find the PSJČ authoritative enough to warrant inclusion of this verb—indeed, any of its entries—into Wiktionary. I then went to kramerius.nkp.cz to find the original quotation. — Thank you for having notified me of the Citations page for poorly attested entries. With respect to Google and Google books, I am afraid they are not quite good options for looking up obsolete or rare Czech words.--Jiří Bezděka (talk) 16:07, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- WT:ATTEST does not recognize dictionaries as sources for attestation, by its requirement of "use in permanently recorded media", as opposed to mention. Thus, PSJČ--Příruční slovník jazyka českého--cannot be used to attest "dragounovat". Wiktionary even has Appendix:English dictionary-only terms, which contains terms that cannot appear in the mainspace. Thus, while "ablocate" is listed in the appendix, the ablocate entry points the reader to the appendix. --Dan Polansky (talk) 18:56, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Whatever, thanks for pointing out http://bara.ujc.cas.cz/psjc/. I have created template:R:PSJC and template:R:SSJC, to be added to Czech entries as external links. --Dan Polansky (talk) 12:23, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- One more note. http://bara.ujc.cas.cz/psjc/search.php?heslo=dragounovati&pocet_karet=50 shows only two cards in the card database, both by the same author. Thus, it is fairly likely that there is only one independent attesting quotation, and that the term does not meet WT:ATTEST. --Dan Polansky (talk) 12:46, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
