[edit]Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome! Mglovesfun (talk) 12:17, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Redirections
[edit]See WT:REDIR, in this case, you should create the entries instead of using redirects. {{ja-noun}}
is equipped for this; see also {{ja-def}}
and WT:About Japanese. --Mglovesfun (talk) 17:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
What source do you have for this reconstruction? The two descendants allow for both *bʰago- and *bʰogo-. Furthermore, the meaning "god" is probably a specific Slavic development, because Slavic also has *bogatъ (“wealthy”), showing that this was the original meaning. Also, please link reconstructed terms in descendants with {{lr}}
, not with {{recons}}
which is a counterpart to {{term}}
and is meant to be used for mentions in running text. Finally, when creating PIE entries that are not full words, please add a hyphen at the end per WT:AINE#Linking and entry names. Of course it's even better to just use the full nominative singular form if it's known. —CodeCat 15:59, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, have you ever heard of that template before? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 09:30, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Jawi parameter for ms-adj
[edit]I added the Jawi parameter to the {{ms-adj}}
template so that it could be similar to {{ms-noun}}
. What do you think? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 15:34, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- *thumbs up* ;) How about
{{ms-verb}}
? Do you think you can, besides the Jawi parameter, come up with the "infinitive" parameters (meng- and ber- forms) as well? - Fanatix (talk) 15:47, 10 August 2014 (UTC)- I added the Jawi parameter to
{{ms-verb}}
. I'm not sure about the latter two parameters; maybe you should ask CodeCat (talk • contribs). --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 16:25, 10 August 2014 (UTC)- Can you elaborate on what the infinitive parameters are supposed to do? —CodeCat 19:44, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- It's supposed to look like as in the entry kukus, for example. I just have to enter the verb form. And it has to be optional because some infinitives are just the root word. - Fanatix (talk) 04:52, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- So is just a single infinitive parameter enough, or should there be two? —CodeCat 11:45, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Just one for the moment. And wait, I just did my research and found that 'infinitive' doesn't describe well the affixed verb forms in Malay (as the form is also used as finite verbs, ref. the Wikipedia article for infinitive). Use "used in the form" instead. – Fanatix (talk) 04:47, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello; since I've noticed your edit on Esse, I wonder about how much you know about the German language. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 10:14, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Just a little. Had been learning the language online, on and off. I actually used Duden as a reference. Even in the Asian language lemmas I've been working with I only know from a little up to basic knowledge, except Malay which I am fluent in. – Fanatix (talk) 11:38, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Baidu as reference
[edit]Hi, please do not list Baidu as a reference. It is not considered a reliable source, and it is usually not necessary because we rely more on real-world examples. Please see WT:REF. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 04:44, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Hokkien readings
[edit]Hi, I was wondering where you're getting Hokkien readings from for the recent entries you made. Are you a speaker of Hokkien? If so, may I ask what variety of Hokkien you speak? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 08:07, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Actually I just obtained them from the component entries. I am of Hokkien ancestry but do not speak any variety fluently. I have also edited entries in languages I have learned but do not speak like Hindi, Thai etc. KLITE789 (talk) 13:37, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
