• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
• Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
• A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
• If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.

Happy 2020

I wish you a Happy 2020! I have been reading your excellent translations of Karyotakis and Kavafis! I am so impressed and so grateful! If you permit it, some of your translations could be used in quotations of 1 or 2 verses? I have been struggling with translations -I am terrible at this- Quotation style in wiktionary: e.g. at ανεπαισθήτως with Cavafy (or at Citations:βρέχω with Kalvos). I am now reading your Doros Loizos translations.

Happy New Year to you too! I'm glad that you like the translations; we have many, many more, as yet unpublished; I'm preparing a short collection of Karyotakis, and one of Kavafis. The Loizou I hope to come out later this year (his widow has been very supportive). I've also started translating some poems by Zoe Karelli, though I need to find the holder of copyright for those. I hope that you like my own poetry, too. Are you on Facebook? I post more of my translations there, for Friends Only (so that they don't count as having been published). Sorry, I am not in facebook. I know very little about poetry, I am ashamed to admit, although my father used to write poems. Your poetry: fascinating. I see that you experiment with futuristic structures of verses. Like Psychophonics. I thought of you as an astrophysicist floating in the belt of some asteroid. And I can hear music -well, I am a pianist, so i tend to hear music for every structure-. I also enjoyed your satire for Mr.Gove.

Karelli's manuscripts, - i see at wikipedia- are held by ΕΛΙΑ. As for wiktionary: I entered justtt to correct a tiny mistake, I was welcomed very warmly, and I fell in love with it! Doing verb conjugations now... -although i am not a philologist-. Some work at the el.wiktionary too. Let me know for anything you might need. sarri.greek (talk) 13:23, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

@Sarri.greek Oops -- sorry; it's a long time since I've used a Wiki like this; I should have known about the use of colons for indenting (though I don't think that I ever used the "ping" command).

In fact we share something, in that I'm a philosopher -- but also interested in the sciences, and a huge science-fiction fan. The clash and combinations of metaphysics and physics can be very fruitful for poetry!

Thanks for the tip about Karelli's manuscripts -- I'll contact ΕΛΙΑ about the possibility of permission for publishing translations. (I once published a translation of a Seferis poem, not thinking about copyright -- fortunately no-one seemed to notice...) --Bibliosporias (talk) 23:20, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Hymns by Plethon

(Also @Sarri.greek) What do you think of the idea of translating the hymns by Plethon into any traditional language of Europe? -- Apisite (talk) 08:58, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

@Apisite, @Sarri.greek: sorry not to have replied sooner. I'd come across Plethon's name in the context of Neoplatonism, but I must admit that I knew little about him, and nothing of his hymns. It's an interesting project, though I've not been able to find the original texts on line; are they easily available?

I'm in the midst of a couple of other translation prohjects at the moment -- Maria Polydouri and Elli Paionidou -- but the latter is nearly ready to be submitted to editors, so I'll have time to get started on something new. I'd only be able to tackle an English translation, though -- are there people here who could try other languages? Bibliosporias (talk) 16:22, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

M @Apisite, very nice, your Appendix:Transliterations of Hymns by Plethon, but source for text is needed. I cannot find it for Gemistos 'hymns' at Contents or Gemistos section at Patrologia Graeca (are they the νόμοι (nómoi, “laws”)? English translation, already at the book published as at your 'Further reading' section. And Contents for French here. ‑‑Sarri.greek ^♫ I 17:36, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
