[edit]Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome! Mglovesfun (talk) 11:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Talkpage edits
[edit]Could you please stop leaving messages on talk pages of entries claiming that words are from Ice Age and similar nonsense? It wastes other people time to see why the talkpage was opened, and respond (or not respond). Thanks. --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 16:03, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm right... You couldn't say anything against what I wrote! Böri (talk) 07:27, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
- You are not right. You are pushing crazy theories and wasting other people's time. --Vahag (talk) 08:16, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Mglovesfun help me!
[edit]It says: Böri is currently blocked. 31.12.2014 13:31:36: Ivan Štambuk blocked Böri (block log), expiring 31.03.2015 14:31:36 (Adding nonsense/gibberish) / What I wrote was NOT nonsense! Mglovesfun, please bring them back... They are acting like The Inquisition!!! I just wrote the correct etymologies of P.I.E. numerals (from 3 to 8 /because the etymologies of 1, 2 and 9 were already correct.) from the work of Allison Emery Drake (from 1907!)... They CAN'T say that the theory of Allison Emery Drake is nonsense! Because it is perfect! Böri (talk) 09:08, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- I also wrote the etymologies of 10 and 100... / Please tell me why you found his theory nonsense... It is NOT nonsense... He wrote these things 108 years ago! He wrote better than you! Böri (talk) 09:52, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- The rule of thumb is: the older the theory, the less sense it makes. But that's beside the point. The point is that those theories are obsolete and irrelevant today, and nobody cares about them anymore. Discussing them is a waste of time. If you want to make them known to a wider audience you should e.g. start a blog, post them on facebook, submit them to a journal or something - not abuse Wiktionary talk pages. We only focus on the latest and fashionable scholarly research. Older and speculative stuff is only allowed when there is no generally accepted etymologies, and that only when it's supported in the recent literature. This Allison Emery Drake guy appears to be an obscure non-entity and should best be ignored, and his theory is just as you say - nonsense. --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 11:05, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- NOT nonsense! First you must show that it's nonsense! Allison Emery Drake was born in 1860. He wrote many books... You can find them on internet. Böri (talk) 11:12, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Admins, please answer...
[edit]I'm writing to all of you, of course... I'm not writing to just Mglovesfun... I'm writing to all of you! (Because Mglovesfun said "Welcome!" in 2010.) They can't delete what I wrote. THIS IS A KIND OF RACISM! When you have time, please answer! Regards, Böri (talk) 11:09, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- The block was justified. You are adding nonsense/gibberish. --Vahag (talk) 11:39, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Since I've never heard of Allison Emery Drake before, I have sympathy towards you. <3 --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 14:43, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
