[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Acolyte of Ice (talk) 10:50, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Please test your changes to the module. Category:Pages with module errors is full of errors caused by your changes in this module: "Lua error in Module:string_utilities at line 19: string_utilities.format: 'anyn' not found in table". I have rollbacked your changes. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 15:15, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for rollbacking. Because i dont know how to do that. Almanbet Janışev (talk) 15:44, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
Noicon
[edit]Why are you adding audio files that have no icon? Vininn126 (talk) 15:44, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- I didn't knew that before i discovered this Almanbet Janışev (talk) 14:43, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
Language separator
[edit]When adding a new language to a page that has another language already, you have to separate the entries using ----
. Please see the documentation. (There's currently a vote going on to get rid of these separators but currently they are still required.) I've fixed the entries you added. Thanks, tbm (talk) 11:23, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
Place name links
[edit]Please make sure the links to WSJP and PWN both - PWN links should work most of the time. Vininn126 (talk) 17:00, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
Template:ky-noun
[edit]Template:ky-noun is broken in most articles, like кесме, where there are no arguments given to the template. This affects at least a few hundred articles. Kristian-Clausal (talk) 12:30, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
References to inflected forms
[edit]Hello,
Could you stop making inflected forms with references and usage notes? They are a job for a bot or an accelerated entry creation. Please don't waste your and other editors time.
An entry like this: Льво́ві (Lʹvóvi) is what (maximum) expected from such an entry.
References need to be given only to lemmas.
Please also stop making copy-paste and grammar errors. Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 23:25, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
biszkecki
[edit]Where did you get this? I'm getting exceedingly few hits on the internet. Vininn126 (talk) 16:27, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- From polish Wiktionary Almanbet Janışev (talk) 18:43, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- It's unsourced there. Vininn126 (talk) 18:51, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Vininn126: It is rare, since Bishkek is not so often mentioned in Polish books or media but it is correctly formed and can probably be attested (with a stretch), especially in a context "protokół Biszkecki". Inflected forms count for attestation, e.g. "biszkeckiego". Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 00:54, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Almanbet Janışev, the Polish Wiktionary (or any other Wiktionary) doesn't count as a good source but like with anything, you can check your entries and grammar. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 00:56, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- I've opened an RFV, I can also check for inflected forms of course. Vininn126 (talk) 09:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
You can't use {{number box}}
unless you have a Module:number list/data/ submodule with a record for the number in question. I did the first step by creating Module:number list/data/tk, but it's empty- the rest is up to you. See Module:number list/data/az for how it was done for a related language. Chuck Entz (talk) 20:16, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Links
[edit]Please stop mindlessly adding links to PWN and WSJP if they don't go to the lemma. I know there are many examples of this on other pages but those should be removed. I have already asked you once. Vininn126 (talk) 15:14, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
"Cities" in Azerbaijan
[edit]As you correctly pointed out in Lökbatan, it's not a city, and there are definitely no 66 cities in Azerbaijan. Maybe you could help cleaning those? Allahverdi Verdizade (talk) 13:21, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Semantic loans
[edit]This is the third time I'm telling you: stop setting all these etymologies as semantic loans - a semantic loan is when a word already exists but calques a new meaning, i.e. myszka. Sounds don't have to correspond 1-1 to be considered a borrowing. Vininn126 (talk) 12:43, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Please do not create entries with incorrect pronunciation and without references. Auringonlasku (talk) 11:47, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Almanbet Janışev You are doing it again, please be careful Auringonlasku (talk) 22:54, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Mass addition of Proper nouns
[edit]I just want to say this evokes caution in me - I'm not sure what verification process you're doing aside from checking Wikipedia, which is generally a bad idea, as Wikipedia often has protologisms. I also am concerned you aren't checking for anything that could vary and need special input in pages. I'd advise you not to take this approach. Vininn126 (talk) 15:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Are you going to reply or continue to do the exact same thing? Vininn126 (talk) 16:06, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- This guy never responds to messages, you can see this in the topic above that I created; a block is necessary if he continues with the same error. Auringonlasku (talk) 16:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for expressing your concerns. I understand the importance of ensuring accuracy, especially when it comes to using sources like Wikipedia. While I may consult publicly available resources, I always strive to cross-check facts and avoid relying solely on Wikipedia, particularly for information that might be contentious or evolving.
- I also take extra care when dealing with topics that may require specialized input or verification, and I’m open to incorporating additional sources or expert perspectives where needed. Your feedback is valuable, and I'll be sure to apply a careful approach when handling this or any similar issues going forward. Almanbet Janışev (talk) 16:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Are you checking mostly just Wikipedia for translations? When you say you check, what does that mean? Vininn126 (talk) 16:09, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, but also PWN Almanbet Janışev (talk) 16:10, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Plenty do not have entries are not present there, sometimes dictionaries have ghost words, and you are adding not just Polish. I find it hard you are verifying this number of entries at this speed. Vininn126 (talk) 16:12, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please be careful when doing something you don't know, Põhja-Makedoonia, you used a deprecated template and to make matters worse with wrong parameters. Auringonlasku (talk) 18:47, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, it was hard to make an approach to this term Almanbet Janışev (talk) 18:48, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Now I see you did the same thing with 3 other words, man Auringonlasku (talk) 18:52, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
