Welcome to Wiktionary

[edit]

Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 20:01, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Latvian nots

[edit]

How is my addition of a declension table to the Latvian noun/substantive word nots? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 15:42, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

By the way, what does guns mean? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 15:56, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, I think guns is a poetic term for a flame or fire. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 16:00, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Would you like to also review the declension table I added to guns? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 16:33, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Lo Ximiendo If 6th declension, than it is in feminine gender. I check both words (nots and guns). Now is correct! --Čumbavamba (talk) 12:27, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Terms with incomplete gender

[edit]

Hi, would you like to add genders to the entries listed in Category:Latvian terms with incomplete gender? Besides, how active are you? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 23:03, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I try to do it. I work here (basically in Latvian Wiktionary) about week and then do something else, then return again. I check Latvian Wiktionary once a day, sometimes once in two days. --Čumbavamba (talk) 23:22, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Lo Ximiendo If I isn't here, here is instructions:
Masculine gender:
1st declension, if word ends with -s, example: koks
2nd declesion, if word ends with -is, example: pavasaris
3rd declesion, if word ends with -us, example: medus
Feminine gender:
4th declesion, if word ends with -a, example: kaza
5th declesion, if word ends with -e, example: egle
6th declesion, if word ends with -s, example: sirds
There are some exceptions, like akmens or rudens, which ends with -s, but is 2nd declesion. --Čumbavamba (talk) 23:31, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Question mark in Latvian

[edit]

I wonder how to write or type "question mark" in Latvian? That is that Category:Translation requests (Latvian) is for. If that sort of category is too much for you to handle, I understand. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 13:07, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done Done.I will check that category, and try to give some translations. It will be later. Now I want to write entries in Latvian Wiktionary. --Čumbavamba (talk) 13:15, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Latvian verb rakt

[edit]

I added the section for the Latvian verb rakt, so feel free to expand it. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 14:43, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Lo Ximiendo Done Done --Čumbavamba (talk) 15:19, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
And then there's saukt and skriet. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 11:26, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
And pelde, too. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 11:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template "misspelling of"

[edit]

Here is a template that you could use for misspellings instead of the template {{form of}}: {{misspelling of}}. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 09:32, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Thank you for reading. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 09:33, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for helping out with Latvian. As you can see, I added a few very basic entries for common terms, but not speaking the language at all, I hoped someone would come along and expand and check them. Happy editting. --Type56op9 (talk) 13:36, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Entry formatting etc

[edit]

I appreciate your additions of Latvian vocabulary very much! However, there are a lot of minor problems with your entries that I have been fixing. If you look at the edits I have made to your recent entries, you will see that I have been removing redundant definitions and fixing the formatting, as well as other minor changes. Please try to learn from these changes so that the rest of your entries do not need to be fixed at all. Paldies! —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 00:03, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok! --Čumbavamba (talk) 00:07, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your contribution to the cīņa article

[edit]

I'm not exactly sure cīņa is wrestling. You may not remove it, but I'm just uneasy about it, can you try to convince me? :)

Unknowledgeable (talk) 20:02, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Unknowledgeable Ok, I will try to convince you later, today after work. --Čumbavamba (talk) 11:39, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Unknowledgeable Done Done. I add usex. See interwiki of Wikipedia article Greco-Roman wrestling. --Čumbavamba (talk) 16:38, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Čumbavamba Cool, believe you now. :) Unknowledgeable (talk) 09:43, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey

[edit]

Hey. Can you have a look at Category:Latvian ??? pronouns? --Type56op9 (talk) 11:01, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Looked at 'em, fixed 'em. Unknowledgeable (talk) 04:08, 23 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Type56op9 That category is empty. What I must do? I don't understand, what do you want? --Čumbavamba (talk) 11:41, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Čumbavamba I emptied it by adding some info — that was the original intent of Type56op9's post. :) Sorry for inconvenience. Unknowledgeable (talk) 09:38, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Piemēri

[edit]

Es redzu, ka tu pievienoji daudz jaunu vārdu! Būtu laba ideja atzimēt tos ka "bez piemērēm" (vai veikt sarakstu), lai viņus var atrast, ja kāds (es?) vēlās pievienot piemērus. --Pereru (talk) 00:21, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Labi, turpmāk mēģināšu tā darīt. --Čumbavamba (talk) 12:40, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Paldies! :-) --Pereru (talk) 12:17, 14 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
