Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Dryden's work The Wild Gallant (1st edition, 1669), which was first performed on 5 February 1663, then rewritten and revived in 1667. It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from a part of the work other than the play as indicated in the second column of the following table, use this parameter to specify the name of the part as indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | Epilogue to the VVild Gallant, as It vvas First Acted |
First Prologue | Prologue to the VVild Gallant, as It vvas First Acted |
Preface | Preface |
Revival Prologue | Prologue to the VVild-Gallant Reviv’d |
- As the above chapters are not paginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" that the Internet Archive has assigned to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/wildgallantcomed00dryd_0/page/n12/mode/1up
, specify|page=12
.
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases if the page number is specified, the template will determine the act number quoted from, as shown below. However, if page 14 is quoted from, the act number must be manually specified in uppercase Roman numerals, like this:|act=I
.
Act I pages 1–14 |
Act II pages 14–26 |
Act III pages 27–40 |
Act IV page 41–67 |
Act V pages 68–78 |
|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
