Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Dryden's work Aureng-zebe (1676); the 1st edition (London: [s.n.], 1675; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template may be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from a part of the work indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Epilogue | Epilogue |
Epistle Dedicatory | To the Right Honourable, John, Earl of Mulgrave, […] |
Prologue | Prologue |
- As the epistle dedicatory and epilogue are unpaginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/aurengzebetraged00dryd_0/page/n12/mode/1up
, specify|page=12
. (The prologue is also unpaginated, but the template is able to determine the URL.)
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. Note that several pages are incorrectly numbered. Specify the correct page number shown in the second column of the following table (in which preceding and succeeding page numbers have been included in order that these pages not be confused with the pages that correctly have the same numbers) instead of the incorrect number in the first column:
Incorrect page number | Page number to specify | Preceding page number specified in the book | Succeeding page number specified in the book |
---|---|---|---|
32 | 34 | 33 | 29 ([35]) |
29 | 35 | 32 ([34]) | 36 |
28 | 38 | 37 | 25 ([39]) |
25 | 39 | 28 ([37]) | 40 |
- If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
- Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act (I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
Act I pages 1–14 |
Act II pages 15–30 |
Act III pages 31–47 |
Act IV pages 48–65 |
Act V pages 66–86 |
|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment about the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
