[edit]Etymology
[edit]Adjective svatý (“holy”) refers to the fact that the local church was a famous place of traditional pilgrimages. Noun kopeček (“little hill”), which is a diminutive of kopec (“hill”), refers to its location on a low hill.
Originally two similar names were used for the settlement: Svatá Hora (“Holy Mountain”) and Svatý Kopeček, the latter one prevailing since the end of the 19 century to distinguish it from another pilgrimage place Svatá Hora near Příbram.[1]
