Etymology 1

From an earlier *ūknǫtī, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *auk-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ewk-néw-ti, from *h₁ewk- (to accustom); cognate with Lithuanian jùnkti (to get used to), and see *učiti (to teach) for more cognates.[1]
