Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *prīˀjā́ˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *priH-eh₂-ti, from *priHós (dear, beloved). Cognate with Sanskrit प्रीणाति (prīṇā́ti, to please), Persian آفریدن (âfaridan, to create) and Old High German frīten (to look after).
