[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *per-. Cognate with Ancient Greek πείρω (peírō, “to pierce”), πόρος (póros).
- Черных: also περάω (peráō), Sanskrit पिपर्ति (píparti, “to overcome, to resist, to bring across”)
- Vasmer: also ἔπαρον (éparon), Gothic 𐍆𐌰𐍂𐌰𐌽 (faran, “to travel”) and related to Russian Church Slavonic напери (naperi), разперу (razperu)=разпорѭ (razporjǫ) (and *perti, *pьrtь, *pariti, *pero, *porporъ)
