Inherited from Old East Slavic пороти (poroti), from Proto-Slavic *porti. Cognate with Belarusian паро́ць (parócʹ), Russian поро́ть (porótʹ), Polish próć, Bulgarian по́ря (pórja), Old Church Slavonic прати (prati).
