Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *kʷom-dʰ-. Baltic cognates include Old Prussian quendau (= kendau) in isquendau ("from where, whence"), from is "from" (cf. Lithuanian , Latvian iz, Proto-Slavic *jьz) + kendau.
