     Ngài được xem là một trong tứ đại Bồ tát của Phật giáo (tứ đại Bồ tát là Bồ tát Quán Thế Âm, Bồ tát Văn Thù, Bồ tát Địa Tạng và Bồ tát Phổ Hiền). Ngài và Bồ tát Văn Thù là thị giả của Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni. Bồ tát Văn Thù cưỡi sư tử đứng thị giả ở bên trái và Bồ tát Phổ Hiền cưỡi voi trắng đứng thị giả ở bên phải.

     He is conceived of as one of the Four Great Bodhisattva of Buddhism (which include Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Kshitigarbha and Samantabhadra). He and the Bodhisattva Manjushri are the attendants of the Buddha Shakyamuni. The Bodhisattva Manjushri rides a lion on the left, and the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra rides a white elephant on the right.
