[edit]Borrowed from Portuguese Macau, corruption of southern Chinese 阿媽港/阿妈港, from 阿媽/阿妈 (aa3 maa1, “Mazu, patron goddess of sailors”) + 港 (gong2, “bay, port”).[1]
