Appendix:Glossary of Batangas Tagalog
This appendix lists common words used in the Batangas (Batangueño) dialect of Tagalog, spoken in the province of Batangas. The Batangas dialect typically features the particles e and ga, the preservation of various Tagalog words now perceived to be archaic in most dialects, as well as some phonological differences from other dialects. This appendix excludes alternative forms of standard Tagalog words when used to indicate dialectal speech.

[edit]Diminutive names
[edit]Diminutive forms of given names are usually formed by adding the suffixes -ing, -ang, -ong, or -eng to a shortened name (which is however, common in the Tagalog-speaking areas), but there are slowly being replaced by forms using -ay or -oy, shortening, reduplications, or English forms.
Surnames
[edit]Surnames of people in Batangas have been a variety, from Spanish-origin ones (e.g. Reyes, Santos, Cruz, Garcia, Ramos, Perez, Mendoza, Castillo) to purely Filipino names brought by migrant ethnicities (e.g. Kapampangan Pangilinan, Ilocano Umali, Cebuano Mangubat), but some native Tagalogs bear surnames from Tagalog, particularly the surnames starting with Dima- (which however, also exists in other Philippine languages, such as Maranao or Maguindanao clan names), or those incorporating archaic Tagalog vocabulary.
