  1. added to a noun or verb to denote a machine or instrument:
    πλένω (pléno, to wash) + ‎-τήριο (-tírio) → ‎πλυντήριο (plyntírio, washing machine)
    στεγνώνω (stegnóno, to dry) + ‎-τήριο (-tírio) → ‎στεγνωτήριο (stegnotírio, dryer)
  2. added to a noun or verb to denote an action it completes:
    απολύω (apolýo, to dismiss/send away) + ‎-τήριο (-tírio) → ‎απολυτήριο (apolytírio, school leaving certificate/diploma)
    ειδοποιώ (eidopoió, to inform) + ‎-τήριο (-tírio) → ‎ειδοποιητήριο (eidopoiitírio, informative notice)
  3. added to a noun or verb to denote a place:
    δικάζω (dikázo, to try) + ‎-τήριο (-tírio) → ‎δικαστήριο (dikastírio, courtroom)
