[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *wiรพrฤ , more specifically from the compound form *wiรพra-, which seems to have analogically replaced the form of the preposition. Cognate to German wider (โagainstโ), Dutch weer (โagainโ), English wither (โagainstโ), Old Norse viรฐr (โagainstโ).
