[edit]From Proto-Germanic *sehs, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *s(w)รฉแธฑs (which see for more). Cognate to Crimean Gothic seis and Old Norse sex, and Koine Greek แผฮพ (hรฉx), which it translates.
