[edit]Earliest attested in a speech by King Wuling of Zhao recorded in Stratagems of the Warring States, :
- 今吾將胡服騎射以教百姓,而世必議寡人矣。 [Classical Chinese, trad.]
- Jīn wú jiāng húfúqíshè yǐ jiào bǎixìng, ér shì bì yì guǎrén yǐ. [Pinyin]
- Now I intend to instruct the hundred clans to adopt the clothes of the Hu in order to practice mounted archery, but this will certainly make [me] the subject of gossip throughout the world."
