Etymology 1

Borrowed from Japanese はちみー (hachimī), a corrupted form of 蜂蜜(はちみつ) (hachimitsu). Popularized by a song, known as "Honey Song," sung by Tokai Teio from the Uma Musume Pretty Derby franchise in Episode 12, Season 2 of its anime series. Meaning spread from honey water to cute animals probably through Chinese TikTokers when they started using an arranged version of the above mentioned song in various animal videos, and then calling them by this word in other to sound cute.
