From ศาล (sǎan, “court”) +‎ ชั้น (chán, “instance”) +‎ อุทธรณ์ (ùt-tɔɔn, “appeal”); literally "court of appellate instance"; coined in 2015 to replace ศาลอุทธรณ์ (sǎan-ùt-tɔɔn).
