Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Gujarati नांषिवउं (nāṃṣivaüṃ /nāṃkhivaüṃ/), from Sanskrit નઙ્ક્ષ્યતિ (naṅkṣyati) (see નશ્યતિ (náśyati)). Cognate with Malvi नाखणो (nākhṇo), Marwari नाखणौ (nākhṇau) / 𑅧𑅖𑅢𑅒 (nkhṇu), नांखणौ (nāṅkhṇau) / 𑅧𑅧𑅖𑅢𑅒 (nnkhṇu), Nimadi नाखणूं (nākhṇū̃), Hindustani ناکْھنَا (nākhnā) / नाखना (nākhnā). Nearly identical in function to Hindustani ڈَالْنَا (ḍālnā) / डालना (ḍālnā).
