[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*coṭṭa), *𑀘𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*cuṭṭa), 𑀘𑀼𑀝𑀢𑀺 (cuṭati, “cuts, strikes”), of non-Aryan origin.[1] Cognate to Punjabi ਚੋਟ (coṭ), Nepali चोट (coṭ), Hindi चोट (coṭ). Doublet of চুটা (cuṭa, “to strike; to do something with force”). The first meaning is the original; the second, third and sixth ones evolved from the first while the fourth and fifth ones evolved from the third.
