Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-European *ḱley- (to lean, incline). Cognate with Ancient Greek κλῑ́νω (klī́nō, lean), giving κλῖμᾰξ (klîmăx, ladder, staircase; climax), κλῐ́μᾰ (klĭ́mă, slope) whence English climate; Latin clīnō (lean) whence English incline etc; English lean, Proto-Germanic *hlaidrijō whence English ladder.
