[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘻𑘝𑘹𑘽 (poteṃ), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑁄𑀢𑁆𑀢 (potta, “cloth”), from a derivative of Sanskrit पोत (pota, “cloth”)[1] (compare Arabic فُوطَة (fūṭa)). Related to पोतेरे (potere). Compare Gujarati પોતું (potũ), પોતડી (potḍī), Hindi पोता (potā, “a cloth, brush or stick”), पोतिया (potiyā), पोतड़ा (potṛā), Sindhi پوتيِ / पोती, پوتيِو / पोत्यो, Punjabi ਪੋਤੜਾ (potṛā) / پوتڑا (potṛā), Nepali पोतो (poto), Odia ପୋତା (potā).
