[edit]From Proto-Bodo-Garo *tɯi¹ (“water”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-t(w)əj-n ~ m-ti-s (“water; fluid; liquid; river; to soak; to spit”). Cognate with Dimasa di, Kokborok twi, Rabha চিকা, Garo ci, Tiwa ti, Deori জি, Mising আচি (asi), Mizo tui, Manipuri ꯏꯁꯤꯡ (ising).
