From Proto-Austroasiatic *ɗaːk, whence also the following terms in other Munda languages: Bodo Gadaba daʔ, Bondo daʔ, Korku daʔ, Kharia dak, Korwa dak, Juang ଡକ୍, Santali ᱫᱟᱜ (dak’). Compare Car Nicobarese mak and Vietnamese nước.
