[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian تشنه (tišna), from Middle Persian tyšnk' (tišnag), from Old Persian, from Proto-Iranian *tŕ̥šnakah, from Proto-Iranian *tŕ̥šnah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tŕ̥šnas, from Proto-Indo-European *tr̥s-nó-s, from *ters- (“dry”). Doublet of तृष्णा (tŕṣṇā), a tatsama.
Compare Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬭𐬱𐬥𐬀 (taršna), Ancient Greek τέρσομαι (térsomai), Latin terra, Old Armenian թառամիմ (tʻaṙamim, “I wither”) and English thirst.
