[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tap-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tap-, from Proto-Indo-European *tep- (“to be warm”). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *teplъ (“warm”), Latin tepeō whence English tepid.
