Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *tápas (“heat”), from Proto-Indo-European *tépos, from *tep- (“be warm, be hot”). Cognate with Persian تب (tab, “fever”), Latin tepeō. Equivalent to तप् (tap) + -अस् (-as).
