[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑁄𑀓𑁆𑀔 (cokkha), perhaps borrowed from Dravidian (compare Tamil சொகுசு (cokucu, “luxury”)).[1][2] Also back-formed into Sanskrit चोक्ष (cokṣa). Cognate with Punjabi ਚੋਖਾ (cokhā) / چوکھا (cokhā), Nepali चोखो (cokho), Gujarati ચોખલું (cokhlũ), Marathi चोख (cokh), Konkani चोखें (cokhẽ), Bengali চোখা (cōkha), Odia ଚୋଖ (cokha), Kannada ಚೊಕ್ಕ (cokka) (an Indo-Aryan borrowing).
