Inherited from Aramaic קְרָבָא (qrāḇā), derived from the verb ܩܵܪܹܒ݂ (qārēḇ, to approach, to be/become near); compare also borrowed into Akkadian 𒋡𒊏𒁍 (/⁠qarābu⁠/) and Hebrew קְרָב (krav).
