From Middle Persian [script needed] (kōδ). Related to Sanskrit कूट (kūṭa, heap, multitude), Romani kidao (to heap), Old Armenian loanword կոյտ (koyt, heap, mass, pile) and possibly Classical Syriac ܩܘܛܝ (qawṭī, to heap).
