Borrowed from Persian تازیانه (tâziyâne, whip), from Middle Persian [script needed] (tʾcʾnk' /⁠tāzānag⁠/).

  1. whip, lash, a pliant, flexible instrument used to direct and herd animals, or to strike a person as a punishment

  2. plectrum, a small piece of metal, ivory, etc., for plucking the strings of an instrument, such as a lyre, guitar, etc.
