[edit]From *qara- (“to look”), probably borrowed from Middle Mongol,[1] from Proto-Mongolic *kara- (“to look”).[2]
Cognate with Kazakh қарау (qarau, “to look”), Kyrgyz кара- (kara-, “to look”), Southern Altai кара- (kara-, “to look”), Uzbek qaramoq (“to look”), Uyghur قارىماق (qarimaq, “to look”), Khakas хара- (xara-, “to look”).
