[edit]Possibly from a reduction of *істны (*istny), from Old Ruthenian истый (istyj) + -ны (-ny), from Old East Slavic истъ (istŭ), from Proto-Slavic *jistъ. Compare Polish istny and Ukrainian існий (isnyj).
