Beware false cognate Greek πτηνό (ptinó, bird) and related forms in all languages from Ancient Greek πέτομαι (pétomai, to fly), which is from Proto-Indo-European *peth₂- (whence also Proto-Slavic *però and true Slavic cognates of the Greek word, like Russian перо́ (peró, feather)).
